Greetings GLACUHO!

I want to start by recognizing Kristin Brewer and all the work she has put into the Ohio State Delegate position for the past two years. She has been an outstanding representation of our great state and has done amazing work keeping the Ohio membership informed, involved, and excited about GLACUHO. That being said, I think it takes a lot to continue after her, but I am honored to accept this nomination and excited to submit my candidacy for the Ohio State Delegate position. I am eager to undertake an opportunity to further my involvement in GLACUHO and give back to an organization that has provided so much to my professional growth.

I have been lucky to have worked at two institutions that have supported this endeavor and encourage professional development outside the institution. It was during my time at Lake Forest College in Illinois that I attended my first GLACUHO conference at Peoria. I fell in love with this organization- the networking, the education, and the impact it has on professionals- and knew it would be my professional home. Over the last four years I have been an active and loyal member to the Programming and Development Committee and have contributed to the group through a variety of roles. I have served as liaison to the Professional Development Institute participants as well as to other GLACUHO committees to assist with conference programming, generated initiatives to ensure the committee met assigned objectives as outlined in the GLACUHO Strategic Plan, and designed marketing materials for the conference program submission process. In addition to my efforts with P&D, I was selected as a participant in the Professional Development Institute Class of 2017 and have been an active attendee at each annual conference since 2014. Now being at Ohio University I have felt continued support toward my involvement with GLACUHO and I also feel that I’ve played an integral role in getting my institution more involved through committee membership and conference attendance. I have made GLACUHO a priority on my professional development plan and from that I have seen how my involvement has impacted my development as a residence life professional.

I have not only seen the impact this organization has had on my own professional development, but also just over a short time the impact I have had on GLACUHO. As the Ohio delegate, I would continue to be impactful and continue this positive work. I plan to be highly collaborative in this position, working with past Ohio delegates, other State delegates, the board and the Ohio membership to develop and implement new initiatives to keep the state connected, supported and informed in the organization. Specifically, I would hope to accomplish the following in this position:

-          Continuing transparency, communication and engagement for the Ohio membership through regular newsletters, the Ohio Housing Officers meeting, and utilizing the ACUHO-I home office in Columbus to meet with groups

-          Continuing efforts to engage Senior Housing Officers

-          Implement focus groups or advisory boards for each level of professionals- graduate students, entry-level professionals, mid-level professionals, SHOs as to get feedback about support needed from GLACUHO

-          Collaborate with OCPA/OASPA/CAACURH to create more support for undergraduate and graduate students in student affairs/ residence life; this can also act as a recruitment tool for GLACUHO

-          Initiate more recognition efforts in the region to show appreciation for the work we’re doing in and out of GLACUHO

Ohio has been my professional home, but I was also born and raised in this great state. I am aware the complexities of the state as well as the variety of higher education institutions that are housed here. Having worked at both small private and large public institutions, I feel equipped to be a resource, engage, and support professionals across Ohio. I’m excited to further my involvement with GLACUHO and dive into a new leadership role. Thank you to Ohio University for support in this adventure as well as to GLACUHO leadership for encouraging members to take on these new roles. I appreciate this opportunity and I hope you find that I can be a great representation of Ohio to the GLACUHO board and membership.
