Justin Schuch

It is with great pride I accept the nomination to continue to serve GLACUHO in the position of Treasurer. I am thankful for the numerous GLACUHO experiences over the past many years, and look forward to the possibility of continuing to serve in the role. With the complete support of my supervisors and home institution, Western Illinois University, I am thankful and honored to share my candidacy statement.

The Great Lakes Association of College and University Housing Officers has seen many successes over the past three years and I have been honored to work alongside fantastic individuals as the association has endeavored to enhance resources, connections, and experiences of our members. During the past term as Treasurer, I have worked to develop a number of financial processes, reports, and education for the GLACUHO Board of Directors. Working alongside many dedicated board members, I have been proud to accomplish the following the past three years;

  • Created new, in-depth trainings for GLACUHO Board Members focusing on fiduciary responsibility and finances of association.
  • Led GLACUHO Financial Task Force in developing strategic financial goals for association.
  • Worked towards balancing GLACUHO budget and ending habitual practice of deficit budgeting.
  • Helped develop new initiatives to raise funds for GLACUHO Endowment of ACUHO-I Foundation.
  • Developed new reporting structures to education membership and GLACUHO Board members including monthly online reports and overviews. Implemented GLACUHO Budget session to compliment online materials to increase transparency.
  • Enhanced historical financial records by pulling together additional data to provide best insight and education to GLACUHO Board of Directors.

Involvement with GLACUHO has been one of the true highlights of my professional career and I am thankful for everything this association has given me. It has always been a goal of mine to continue to give back to the association  through involvement and have contributed to the region in a number of capacities including:

  • Treasurer                                                                         2014-Present
  • Member, Professional Foundations Committee              2013-2014
  • Member, Taskforce on Committee Membership             2013-2014
  • Conference Presenter                                                     2010-2016
  • Member, Taskforce on Bylaws Updates & Revisions      2013-2014
  • Chair, Contemporary Issues Committee                         2012-2013
  • Member, Programming and Development Committee    2011-2012
  • Member, Inclusion and Equity Committee                      2009-2011

If reelected to serve as GLACUHO Treasurer, I hope to continue to work with the GLACUHO Board of Directors to accomplish the following;

  • Successfully completing goals outlined in the strategic plan as they relate to GLACUHO finances.
  • Enhance offering online education of GLACUHO members on association finances and goals.
  • Formalize relationship and plans for planned GLACUHO audits.
  • Create a plan for sustainable scholarship program for GLACUHO initiatives and members.
