This book has me thinking a lot on a particular situation.

This past year I had trouble in dealing with a student staff member who was in her third year as a Resident Assistant and a Senior. Morale was low and she just wanted to get through the year as she knew she was leaving. This student staff member also had a job lined up pretty early on so it was difficult to keep her attention focused on her residents, peers, and overall, the residence hall. Anyone else deal with something similar and have any thoughts on this?

Hi folks. I am reaching out to share that due to my work schedule, I have found it difficult to continue my participation in our summer book club. While I still intend to read the book, I don't think my schedule will permit me to be actively engaged with the online dialogue.

I wish you all the best and look forward to meeting many of you at our October annual conference. Have a wonderful summer!

On page 35 there is a story about a woman who tried to point out an issue who got ignored. Later, a man pointed out the same issue much later and he got credit for it. That happens way, way too often in the workplace.

On page 74 there is a story about making a quick judgement about a person in a car speeding and passing, who then turned off at a hospital's ER. Too often people think the flashers are for slow-moving or disabled vehicles on the side of the road. They can be used in the type of emergency described in the book--flashers catch other people's attention. Also, when it is not possible to wait for an ambulance folks should still try to call 911 and dispatch may be able to arrange a squad car to provide an escort to the ER.

Unfortunately, Chapter 7 is not relevant to my institution's system for certain employees in positions longer than six months. After a six-month probation period, it is nearly impossible to remove someone from a civil service position. A person would have to flat out steal and get caught red-handed or physically attack another person for removal. We have third and fourth options: Transfer to Another Department Across Campus and Hope for Early Retirement.
