The Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I), located in Columbus, OH is looking for a Director of Finance & Administration. This person will join the senior management team, work in concert with peer directors and the executive director to implement the strategic plan, provide guidance and support to the volunteer leadership, and direct the finance and administrative team and operations of our business.
ACUHO-I is an association that was founded over 60 years ago and operated largely as a volunteer run organization until about 25 years ago. Today, our 16 person staff works in partnership with our volunteer leaders, partners and stakeholders to run the association and foundation. ACUHO-I is a $3.5 M business incorporated as a 501 c(6) and the ACUHO-I Foundation is a $1.2 M Foundation incorporated as a 501 c(3).
The successful candidate is a leader who brings humor and dedication in addition to a high degree of competence and understanding of all the various aspects of nonprofit management. We are looking for a leader with the ability to build and direct a team of both staff and volunteers, develop processes to further build our business, all while working with a variety of people and skill sets from all over the world. Natural political savvy is a must. Bringing order to what might seem like chaos through the creation of operational procedures is needed.
Yes, we are looking for a rock star – another amazing person to join our team. We are action oriented and require someone who is both self directed to completion and works well in a team. The environment is fast paced. We are often working on new initiatives where there is not a track record or formula of how to do XY or Z… so ambiguity and creativity is a part of our world. Someone who is excited by this opportunity can certainly make their mark and make it their own.
Working style preference is important, especially as it relates to working in a non profit association . Our work is done in combination with staff, volunteers, consultants and business partners. So being a good communicator, and a good listener is vital. Enabling others to understand work that is often specialized, such as in the finance arena is imperative. A person who is at ease as a teacher/mentor/facilitator will have an opportunity to use those skills here.
