In addition to GLACUHO, there are several regional, national and international professional development associations around the globe.  Below are the website links and a short description of other opportunities for you to consider.  Journals and other helpful resources are also found in this section.  As we are continuously building our resource library please feel free to pass on any professional development websites and information to the GLACUHO webmaster, webmaster@glacuho.org.  The webmaster reserves the right to limit or edit content.

Northeast Ohio Housing Officers (NEOHO)

The Northeast Ohio Housing Officers (NEOHO) is a regional college and university housing organization.  NEOHO provides affiliated professionals with opportunities to exchange ideas and resources, network within the region, and promote ethical decision-making within housing and residence life.  Comprised of service providers and educators, NEOHO also strives to provide opportunities for students to explore the housing profession and for them to feel informed and empowered in their roles as emerging leaders.

Michigan College Personnel Association (MCPA)

MCPA is Michigan's comprehensive student affairs organization.  Our members come from a wide array of student affairs and academic affairs functions from institutions all over the state of Michigan and work in areas such as Academic Advising, Residence Life, Career Services, Student Activities, Multicultural Services, and many others.  Our members represent over 40 different institutions across the state of Michigan, including both 2-year and 4-year as well as private and public institutions.  We appeal to all levels of professional experience from graduate students to teaching faculty and from new professionals to senior student affairs officers.

Institutes and Trainings

National Housing Training Institute (NHTI)

The National Housing Training Institute was an initiative begun by James C. Grimm, Pamela Schreiber, and Norbert Dunkel from the University of Florida. The Institute was designed to be an intense professional development opportunity for those with 3-5 years of experience in the housing field and who were looking to continue their career in housing. The first Institute was held in 1991 at the University of Florida; they hosted NHTI for the first ten years. In 2001, the Institute moved to the University of Maryland. In 2005, the Institute was renamed The James C. Grimm National Housing Training Institute in honor of one of its founders.

Social Justice Training Institute

The Social Justice Training Institute provides a forum for the professional and personal development of social justice educators and practitioners to enhance and refine their skills and competencies to create greater inclusion for all members of the campus community.

Founded in 1998 by Jamie Washington, Kathy Obear, Vernon Wall, and Maura Cullen, SJTI provides diversity trainers and practitioners with an intensive laboratory experience where they can focus on their own learning and development to increase their multicultural competencies as social justice educators.

ACUHO-I members believe in developing exceptional residential experiences at colleges, universities, and other post-secondary institutions around the world. Our members include more than 6,400 housing professionals from more than 900 colleges and universities in 22 different countries, who serve approximately 1.8 million students worldwide. National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA)

NASPA, student affairs administrators in higher education, is the leading voice for student affairs administration, policy and practice and affirms the commitment of student affairs to educating the whole student and integrating student life and learning. With over 11,000 members at 1,400 campuses, and representing 29 countries, NASPA is the largest professional association for student affairs administrators, faculty and graduate students.

NASPA also offers regional conferences. GLACUHO schools (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois) are considered part of the NASPA IV-East region.

Association for Student Judicial Affairs (ASJA)

The goal of this site is to compile an unbiased and updated list of every school that offers an online Doctorate Degree in the US.  The creator felt the existing lists were not  comprehensive, easy to find, and many web sites have outdated information and links.  All the schools are listed on the front page and lead directly to each program, additionally they are sorted by state.
