Effective Immediately: How to Fit In, Stand Out, and Move Up at Your First Real Job
by Emily Bennington and Skip Lineberg
Join the GLACUHO Professional Foundations committee as we read and discuss this year’s selected title!
Through June 26th, we’re inviting individuals at all levels, from recent college graduates interested in student affairs to SHOs, to join us in reading “Effective Immediately: How to Fit In, Stand Out, and Move Up at Your First Real Job” by Emily Bennington and Skip Lineberg. The book is designed to address the questions and challenges faced by those entering their first professional position. This summer read opportunity is also ideal for those who directly or indirectly supervise and mentor new professionals! Whether you’ve been in the field one year or twenty years, “Effective Immediately” will prompt you to reflect on those early lessons and how to best learn and teach them to maximize our own and others’ success in the field.
This reading comes at a time of the year when many are transitioning into new positions at new institutions—the ideal time to talk about making great first impressions and setting yourself and your supervisees up for success! The reading will culminate with a round table webinar on Wednesday, June 26th to discuss the book and share advice, personal experiences and lessons learned, and how to best mentor others as they take on new roles.
Even if you can commit to reading only a portion of the book, feel free to join the discussion!
The title is available in many formats (new, used, Kindle, etc.) through both Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
