2010 Call for Programs

Dear GLACUHO Colleagues:

The 2010 Programming & Development Committee is getting prepared for the Annual Conference of the Great Lakes Association of College and University Housing Officers November 7-9, 2010 in Collinsville, IL. This year's conference, hosted by the state of Illinois, is themed Engage. Educate. Acheive. We invite you to help engage our membership through your program proposal for this year's conference.

GLACUHO prides itself on the willingness of its talented members to exchange ideas and share knowledge with fellow professionals. We ask that you consider contributing your time and energy to present your experiences, best practices, programs, successes, and/or challenges as a housing professional. In addition, we also ask that you partner with or recommend Senior Housing Officers, faculty members and/or other colleagues to present programs and experiences at this year's annual conference. Your participation will help ensure a meaningful conference experience for everyone.

We have received feedback from our membership that is helping to guide our program selection processes. In particular we are looking for the following topical areas to be addressed in our programming efforts:

• Living Learning Communities
• Staff Training and Supervision
• Apartments
• Mental Health Issues
• Introduction to Facilities
• Crisis Management and Response
• Best Technology Practices
• Senior Housing Officer Expertise
• Conference Management
• Revamping Hall Councils for Today's Student
• Planning "Your" Professional Development
• Male/Masculine Involvement in Residential Programming (programs, HCs, LLCs, etc)
• Restorative Justice for Residence Halls (including creative sanctioning)
• Learning Outcomes: How to create and assess them
• Student Staff Hiring: Marketing, Interviewing-getting the best Candidates
• Staff Models: Exploring the non-typical housing positions within departments in the
   region (Multicultural Advisors, etc)
• Gender Constructs!
• How to be an effective ally and advocate for individuals in the GLBTQQA communities

However, please don't limit yourself to the above list. Many of our great programs have been created by professionals, like you that have seen a need and addressed it through their presentation.

The Programming & Development Committee hopes to develop an overall conference schedule that is appealing to all members of our organization. Program proposals are due by Friday, May 21, 2010 and may be submitted on the GLACUHO Conference web site. Please click on the "Call for Programs" link to submit your program proposal.

The Programming and Development page of the GLACUHO website also will offer monthy tips on presenting and development. These may be helpful in your planning for your program.

The Programming and Development Committee continues to work hard to make your presentation experience successful. On behalf of the entire committee, thank you for submitting a program proposal and for your contribution to your professional association!
