Information about GLACUHO Committees

Committee Member Involvement

The GLACUHO Board of Directors is currently seeking housing officers in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio to serve on one of the GLACUHO committees.

In order to serve the Association as a committee member, you must be able to fulfill the following expectations. Please complete the checklist below as you consider serving in this capacity:

  • Correspond with your committee chair on a regular basis (at minimum twice per month).

  • Attend the Winter Meeting at Camp Tecumseh, February 11–12, 2018 (GLACUHO covers the cost for meals and lodging on site).

  • Attend the GLACUHO Annual Conference, October 28-30, 2018, in Bloomington, Indiana

  • Attend any additional meeting(s) such as monthly committee meetings (via GoToMeeting).

  • Accept and complete any assignments to meet the goals of the committee and GLACUHO.

  • Gain immediate supervisor’s and institutional approval to serve prior to submitting this application.

Appointment Process

All individuals interested in serving on a committee need to submit a committee member application online by Friday, November 17, 2017 at 11:59pm EST. This includes new and returning committee members. Appointment to committees will be made after the Annual Conference. Committee membership runs from November 2017 to December 2018* to coincide with GLACUHO’s Annual Conference. The newly elected President-elect will notify applicants in December of committee status.

*Communications and Marketing Committee will end at the 2019 Winter meeting in February.


The incoming President-Elect, in consultation with committee chairs, selects committee members. Factors used to make assignments include:

  • Balance of state representation
  • New and returning members
  • Professional experience levels
  • Diversity representation
  • Experience individual professionals bring to the committee
  • Interest, motivation, commitment, and dedication to the committee (current committee chair provides a recommendation for returning committee members)

Committee Descriptions

Campus Safety/Crisis Management

Researches trends and provides resources and best practices in the area of campus safety and crises response.

Initiatives and traditions put on by the Campus Safety and Crisis Management Committee include:

  • Provide educational opportunities for members to learn best practices on campus safety and crisis management.

  • Provide table top exercises for members to use on their home campus

  • Present sessions at the Annual Conference on Campus Safety and Crisis Management.

 
Health and Wellness

Creates resources for students and staff members in the area of Health and Wellness.

Initiatives and traditions put on by the Health and Wellness Committee include:

  • Plans and hosts the GLOW-CUHO 5k and 5k training programs for all fitness levels

  • Sponsors the Minutes to Fitness wellness initiative

  • Has a well-read blog with wellness and fitness challenges as well as wellness tips and tricks for professionals and students alike

  • Additional focuses on mindfulness, meditation, wellness technology, and more!

 
Inclusion and Equity

Provides resources and opportunities on various multicultural and diversity-related topics.

Initiatives and traditions put on by the Inclusion and Equity Committee include:

  • Night Out at the Annual Conference. (In 2017, the committee will host Affinity Socials)

  • Review documents and provide educational opportunities for members on Inclusion and Equity throughout the year.

  • Provide engagement opportunities in Learning on the Go space at the Annual Conference

 
Professional Foundations

To provide resources and opportunities for the education and professional development of Residence Life professionals in the foundational skills of the housing profession.

Initiatives and traditions put on by the Professional Foundations Committee include:

  • Plans and hosts the Professional Development Institute, a professional development seminar featuring a range of activities for professionals with 3 to 5 years’ full-time experience.

  • Plans and hosts the Mid-Level Institute, a professional development seminar for professionals in mid-level roles who are considering a move to the next level and/or searching for opportunities to improve their skills in their current positions.

  • Coordinates the Professional Network, a mentorship opportunity for professionals in the GLACUHO region.

  • Explores new educational initiatives for Residence Life professionals

 
Student Learning

Researches trends and provides resources and best practices in the area of student learning.

Initiatives and traditions put on by the Student Learning Committee include:

  • Plans and host Lunch and learn discussion at the annual conference

  • Chooses and discuss monthly article discussion around student learning and assessment

  • Plans and host new Student Learning and assessment course for GLACUHO membership

 
Facilities and Operations

Reviews facility trends and sustainability options for housing operations

Initiatives and traditions put on by the Facilities and Operations Committee include:

  • Plans and coordinates Facilities Tour at the annual conference

  • Provide on-going engagement opportunities around technology and application

  • In 2017, created and presented a Facilities & Operations Pre Conference

 
Contemporary Issues (Topic:Supervision and Management within Residence Life and Housing)

This year, the committee will examine Supervision and Management in Residence Life and Housing. See statement from President-Elect, Tiffany Gonzales

Initiatives and traditions put on by the Contemporary Issues Committee include:

  • All logistics related to bringing the Contemporary Issues Expert to the Annual Conference

  • Solicit membership/find articles related to the Contemporary Issue to educate members

  • Write articles for Trends on the Contemporary Issue

 
Communications and Marketing

Creates our GLACUHO publications and is responsible for the marketing and social media of the association.

Initiatives and traditions put on by the Communications and Marketing Committee include:

  • Edit articles and designs format for every TRENDS publication.

  • Design materials for multiple committee and conference initiatives.

  • Oversees and manages the various social media accounts for GLACUHO.

  • Takes photos at various GLACUHO activities and events, including the Annual Conference and Winter   Meeting

 
Programming and Development

Responsible for our program sessions at the Annual Conference and various Professional Development opportunities.

Initiatives and traditions put on by the Programming and Development Committee include:

  • Conduct annual assessments for GLACUHO professional development needs; assemble longitudinal program data to identify trends

  • Manage conference program messaging, marketing, proposals, review, selection, slating, and evaluation

  • Identifies strategies to reach and engage more professionals in the region in meaningful ways through various sub-committees
